SUPPLY, NC, May 25, 2013 (Press-News.org) Author, speaker, Homeopath and Lyme recoveree Katina Makris will appear at the National Lyme Disease Rally to be held in Washington DC on May 25th, 2013. The title of her presentation is "Mending the Emotional And Spiritual Wounds of Lyme Disease".
As in the past, the MAYDAY Rally's focus will be to promote awareness of Lyme Disease, to continue to build camaraderie within the ever-growing community, and to encourage elected officials and insurance companies to take action.
"The Lyme Disease Rally," Makris stated, "has a lineup of doctors, lawyers, authors and advocates speaking out, to usher in Lyme disease awareness, better doctor education, improved diagnostics and to urge the government to expand prevention measures as well as initiate more thorough medical insurance coverage regarding this surging epidemic, which has now surpassed HIV as fastest spreading infectious illness in USA. All states contain Lyme infected ticks. All varieties of ticks can carry the bacteria. The CDC labeled it as a short-term infectious illness in late 1970s. We have learned the hard way- 35 years later - that if not diagnosed and treated promptly and aggressively in the early weeks of a new infection, Lyme disease can cause life altering illness and damage to the body and mind."
A full slate of presenters will appear on May 25. These include, but are not limited to:
Monte Skall, Executive Director, National Capital Lyme Disease Association - Patient Advocacy
Susan Green, Attorney, Baltimore, MD - Patient Advocacy
Samuel Shor, MD, FACP, Reston, VA - Scientific Advancements
David Stewart, MD, Board Certified in Family Medicine and Holistic Medicine
Jaime Bloom, Patient Advocate - The Impact of Lyme on the Elderly
Alyssa Knapp, Lyme Survivor - Life after Lyme
With tens of thousands of cases of Lyme contracted annually and thousands more undiagnosed or mistreated, Lyme disease is leaving masses of people in progressive states of illness, collapse and financial ruin. Assorted conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, Fibromyalgia, even dementia could be misdiagnosed Lyme.
Makris is no stranger to Lyme, being a survivor of the disease. Her book, "Out Of The Woods", is the captivating story of her carefully cultivated life unraveling from a misdiagnosed case of Lyme disease. At the peak of her career, with a young family happily ensconced in rural New England, a mysterious 'flu' ransacked Katina's life and future with unsuspecting consequences. Her ten-year journey, two completely bedridden, out of darkness into the light of living is one of profound lessons and unexpected discoveries.
A healing passage of transformational personal change and ultimately one of unheralded spiritual awakening, "Out of The Woods" stretches across the borders of any one illness to all whom are grappling with the uncertainties and seismic quakes of chronic illness. Tending to the emotional and spiritual wounds of Lyme disease is just as critical as killing the bacterial invasion. "Out of The Woods" offers guidance and suggestions of how to heal at these levels, as not everyone knows how to mend a broken spirit. It is an inspirational healing story of rebirth and the power of hope.
The rally will take place on May 25, 2013 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm EST at Freedom Plaza in Washington DC.
Katina I. Makris is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at katina.makris@comcast.net. "Out Of The Woods" is available at her website, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Indie Bound. More information is available at her website.
