ESS Asia Attends Environmental Convention Held by the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines

WILMINGTON, NC, May 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) Since announcing its establishment in December, 2012, the Vietnam Representative Office for Environmental Source Samplers (ESS) has been actively moving forward to network and capture business in the Southeast Asian region. Most recently, ESS has attended the annual convention organized by the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines (PCAPI). PCAPI is a non-stock, non-profit and non-government organization, formed in June 1980 to work hand in hand with the government in the protection of the environment, prevention, abatement and control of land, air, and water pollution.

This 33rd Annual Environmental Convention was held by PCAPI in coordination with the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and was held at the KCC Convention and Events Center in General Santos City in late April, 2013. The event was focused on Pollution Control Officers (PCOs) as partners in Sustainable Development, and provided a form for environmental practitioners, local government units, technical experts, officials, and PCOs to collaborate and share ideas and strategies for the protection of the environment, as well as minimizing the impacts of climate change. In addition to a variety of topical, relevant presentations from experts and participants, there was a large exhibition, allowing companies from all over the Philippines to supply information and expertise on the environmental concerns that related to their work.

Under Philippine Law, Pollution Control Officers are company personnel designated and accredited by the DENR- Environmental Management Bureau to manage pollution and environmental concerns of a particular company. This official designation and the PCOs structural position makes them a valuable asset in protecting the environment and natural resources in the Philippines, and ESS representatives at the convention expressed that networking with these individuals provided valuable insights into the pollution control environment in the county as a whole.

The conference was attended by Mr. Mark Looney, ESS president and chief officer, as well as Ms. Tam Dang, a qualified pollution expert, and a crucial part of the operational staff of the Vietnam office. ESS is partnering with Berkman Systems in the Philippines to provide Relative Accuracy Test Audits (RATA) testing for CEMS systems within the Philippines.
