LOS ANGELES, CA, June 03, 2013 (Press-News.org) This June, artist Michael Miller will showcase 25 new additions to his video game-inspired spray paint series "Punch-Out!". The show is in sync with the famous E3 Gaming Convention (LACC) at Los Angeles' Opulen Studios from June 10-13, 2013. An opening reception will be held on June 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Opulen Studios Photography Studio and Event Venue.
By using multiple types of media and creating a full multisensory experience in his exhibitions, Miller hopes to convey his belief that elements of pop culture are worthy of celebration as nostalgic icons and building blocks of the creative identities of the "Nintendo Generation". The pieces, which Miller creates through a combination of digital sketches, stencils, spray paint and sculptural tools, depict characters from the classic game "Punch-Out!!!".
"My work is a statement that this pop culture of video games is a worthy art," said Miller. "As adult life gets increasingly complicated, I want to celebrate that sense of play and reflect on simpler times."
Michael Miller is a Canadian artist whose work spans digital and analog media, often focusing on pop culture and entertainment. He works with spray paint, stencils, MDF panels and sculptural materials to create multidimensional, immersive works. He has worked under the mentorship of graphite artist Brian Bolton and opened his first solo exhibition in October 2012 in Vancouver, Canada. "Punch-Out!" will be his second solo exhibition.
