The event was organized by Kimaya Brown, a student at Charleston Southern and a law clerk at Evan Guthrie Law Firm. Mr. Guthrie helped with a similar event at the College of Charleston in the previous school year and wanted to bring the opportunity to the students of CSU. There were numerous college students in attendance from several classes and disciplines at the university. The attorney speakers including Mr. Guthrie were full of advice and guidance in their respective presentations.
Attorney Guthrie spoke last of the three presentations and spoke for about 30 minutes in duration. Mr. Guthrie touched on the subjects of performing well in college, the importance of grades and building relationships with professors, the role of the law school admissions test, how to best prepare for law school while in college, what law school classes are like, how to succeed in law classes, what are the best skills that be developed in college to prepare for the real world, and the best habits to form. There was time for students to ask the questions they were interested in after all of the presentations were concluded. Questions ranged from how to land an internship while in college to how to get clients and business as lawyer. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed the event and the opportunity to impart knowledge and to inspire future lawyers. Mr. Guthrie looked forward to being able to do the event in following years.
