Editors' Lounge Attendees Get Exclusive Preview Of New Post-Production Tools From Avid

Attendees were treated to a sneak peek hands-on experience of the new Media Composer 7, Pro-Tools 11, as well as upcoming enhancements to Interplay Sphere, originally launched at IBC 2012, that allows editors to work with each other from anywhere

2013-06-05
BURBANK, CA, June 05, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Editors' Lounge hosted their annual post-NAB round-up on May 17 with an all-Avid event showcasing the latest tools for post-production professionals. Attendees were treated to a sneak peek hands-on experience of the new Media Composer 7, Pro-Tools 11, as well as upcoming enhancements to Interplay Sphere, originally launched at IBC 2012, that allows editors to work with each other from anywhere. These updates to Avid products will officially launch in June. One lucky raffle winner at the end of the evening went home with a copy of Media Composer 7.

Avid Solutions Specialist Michael Krulik, demonstrated a number of new features for Media Composer 7 including LUT support and Avid Frameflex which allows users full creative control of image framing of hi-res media for HD delivery and offline editing. Eliciting lively discussions among attendees were the Dynamic Media Folders—a new automated process that allows editors to continue working while consolidating, copying, and transcoding tasks are automated in the background saving valuable time. Enhancements to AMA were also showcased, most notably the new link to the AMA media window and AMA as managed media that is now searchable in the Media Tool. The biggest crowd pleaser with the new version of Media Composer were the time-saving improvements in audio, including the new direct clip gain and master audio fader where you can adjust gain on a specific clip, independent of track-based automation.

Senior Principal Product Designer for Avid, Ian Krabacher showed how the new Interplay Sphere workflow allows editors working in Media Composer to participate in an Avid workgroup from any location by giving a demonstration of remote media being played and edited from Boston. A variety of local clips were also uploaded to the Boston workgroup as a background process, while sequences of both remote and local clips were being edited. Krabacher then walked attendees through the Media Composer settings showing the process of how multiple remote editors can contribute to the same project. "Interplay Sphere allows creative teams to collaborate with talent best suited for a project regardless of the location," said Krabacher. "Ultimately we want to give both the facility and talent more choice and certainly more immediacy in the way they work together." Interplay Sphere workflows support 4G, WiFi, and LAN connections. Mac OS and additional project format support will be added to Interplay Sphere in June.

Pro Tools 11 is now more powerful than ever with turbocharged 64-bit performance. Avid's Senior Solution Specialist Scott Wood showed how the faster-than-real-time bounce capabilities now delivers audio mixes with lightening fast speeds of up to 150 times faster than real-time. Other features demonstrated included the new built-in metering standards that have a variety of scale and ballistics options in delivery of higher sound quality. Wood showed how the built-in Avid Video Engine allows audio post- professionals to play and edit a wide range of HD video format, the same as in Media Composer.
