Mostafa Ronaghi, Senior Vice President & Chief Technology Officer of Illumina, will give a keynote presentation on "Recent Advances in Next Gen Sequencing and Genomic Medicine" at the NGS & Bioinformatics Summit Europe on October 7-8, 2013 in Berlin, Germany.

The cost of DNA sequencing has been reduced by several orders of magnitude in the past decade which has enabled scientific community to address an increasingly diverse range of biological problems. The scale and efficiency of sequencing that can now be achieved is providing unprecedented progress in areas from agriculture, forensics, consumer genetics and diagnostics. Mostafa will discuss and review recent progresses in DNA sequencing and discuss potential opportunities and challenges. In addition, the use of next generation sequencing will be highlighted in different areas of medicine.

Mostafa Ronaghi, Ph.D., joined Illumina in August 2008 and is responsible for leading internal research programs and evaluating new technologies for the Company. Mostafa is an experienced entrepreneur and was involved in the start-up of four life sciences companies. He serves on the board of directors of Microchip Biotechnologies, NextBio, and Aurora Biofuels.

The NGS & Bioinformatics Summit Europe gathers the foremost experts to present on leading-edge technology in next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. The summit includes two parallel conferences including joint sessions featuring discussions on both research and clinical applications of NGS with its respective challenges, and technical aspects of NGS from a bioinformatics perspective and its practical applications; the opportunities and challenges in NGS dedicated to NGS-related topics, bioinformatics, and data management will all be covered.
