CHARLESTON, SC, June 12, 2013 (Press-News.org) Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina spoke at the Dorchester County District Two Higher Learning Academy at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, SC on Saturday March 9th 2013. The event was the second in the series of Higher Learning Academies for the 2012 - 2013 school year. The event included students from all of the high schools in Dorchester District Two including Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, and Summerville. The Academy includes several Saturday programs that students can attend to learn more how to get ready go to college and different professions and careers that are available. Many local businesses partners and professions from the area were represented including Boeing South Carolina among others. One portion of the event included words of advice from current college student that had connections to the high schools present and a law clerk from Evan Guthrie Law Firm, Kimaya Brown. Kimaya, a senior at Charleston Southern University was on stage in the school theater with students from colleges such as University of South Carolina, Clemson, College of Charleston, Wofford, and Coastal Carolina University and offered words of wisdom to students and parents in attendance. Attorney Evan Guthrie held down a table that allowed interested students to stop by and ask questions about the legal profession and lawyers. Many students and parents came by the table to chat and find out answers to inquiries such as the difficulty level of obtaining a law degree and passing the South Carolina bar exam, to how much time should a current student devote to studying if one wanted to go to law school, and what the employment prospects looked like for different legal careers and areas of law such as criminal law and family law.
This was the second Higher Learning Academy event that Mr. Guthrie attended for the current school year and the second year in a row that he had participated. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed being able to give back to schools in his local community that he serves along with several other prominent businesses and professionals. Mr. Guthrie was happy to be included in such an important event that could potentially have a direct and lasting impact with students in their future careers and advanced education.
