SAN JOSE, CA, June 14, 2013
Kelly Preston's book, Real Dogs Don't Whisper, has been named a finalist and Sponsor Choice Award Winner in the National Indie Excellence Awards. In its seventh year, NIEA was created to recognize self-publishing as a legitimate and strong facet of the publishing industry. The contest is open to all English language books for sale, including small presses, mid-size independent publishers, university presses and self-published authors. Books may be submitted as long as they are in English and can be purchased in the United States.
NIEA represents the highest achievement in self-publishing, a sector of publishing that has been growing rapidly. Not only has the number of entrants increased, but the quality has risen to a whole new level.
Sponsor Choice Award winners are selected from the winners and finalists in all categories. Each prize is selected by NIEA sponsor and CEO Ellen Reid.
As a Sponsor Choice Award winner, Preston will receive a complete copy of Alex Carroll's Deluxe Radio Publicity Program. Carroll has been a guest on more than 1,200 radio shows and sold more than a quarter of a million of his own books. He has more than 10,000 clients in 28 countries using his program to become bestsellers.
The recognition from NIEA is just the latest in a string of awards for Preston. This year alone, Real Dogs Don't Whisper was named a finalist in the International Book Awards and a nominee in the Global eBook Awards. Preston's newsletter, Mr. MaGoo's Corner, also received an All-Star Award from Constant Contact.
Jerry Pane, who has been an editor for Preston, polishing her prose, serving as a sounding board and making sure the work is consistent throughout, noted that, "It continues to be very gratifying, all these awards. A lot of people are up for these awards, [creating] some very tough competition. I think what separates Kelly's book is its unique approach of looking at pet ownership from not only a person's perspective, but from a pet's perspective. It enables Kelly to cover some rather serious subject matter but to balance it with some good comic relief. It's very creative and obviously we've struck just the right cord with readers."
About the author:
Kelly Preston is, first and foremost, an animal lover. Raised on a ten-acre property in a small town in Pennsylvania, she grew up with horses, rabbits, and dogs.
When she left home after college, she acquired Gizmo, an irresistible Lhasa Apso that started her on a journey full of joys and sorrows, hopes and tribulations, frustrations, endless lessons in patience, and above all else, love. All of this has come at the hands (more precisely the paws) of Gizmo, Betty Boop, Buffy, Carla Mae, and the inimitable Mr. MaGoo.
About Real Dogs Don't Whisper:
Real Dogs Don't Whisper: Life Lessons from a Larger than Life Dog is the story of Kelly Preston and her experiences with her special needs dogs and how they have learned, grown and thrived together. The narrative is at times tear-jerking, at times hysterical, and always enthralling. Real Dogs Don't Whisper is more than a book about dogs, it's a book about life.
