SURFSIDE BEACH, SC, June 19, 2013 (Press-News.org) Diane Fanning, famed author of 20 published books has been residing in Texas for several years, transplanted from Virginia. After a trip back east early in 2013 for a hands on visit with a new grandson, she made the decision to return to Virginia to be closer to her family and the countryside she loves.
Fanning was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but after attending Lynchburg College to study chemistry, she stayed in the area and began her writing career for local television, radio and eventually, an advertising agency, earning 70 Addy Awards. During the same timeframe she was doing free-lance writing for magazines.
Although she has 20 published books, Fanning's first book wasn't written until she moved to Texas, mostly due to the constraints of happy motherhood and three young children.
While building her writing career Diane Fanning also held the Executive Director position at Another Way Texas Shares (now Community Shares of Texas) for 10 years, and the governor of Texas appointed her for three terms on the State Advisory Committee for the State Employee Charitable Campaign. Fanning also served on the executive committee for the Board of Directors of the National Association for Choice in Giving (NACG) and on the Board for Community Shares-USA.
Diane Fanning created her career based on many high-profile true crime cases over the years, including the murder of Caylee Anthony in the bestseller MOMMY'S LITTLE GIRL, and the Michael Peterson case in Edgar Finalist WRITTEN IN BLOOD. She attended several trials and researched mounds of documents in the process of writing her true crime series.
Fanning played in an instrumental role in the acquittal of wrongfully convicted Julie Rea. While researching her book, THROUGH THE WINDOW, she obtained the confession of the serial killer responsible for the murder of Julie's son. For her work with the Innocence Project and the Center on Wrongful Convictions, Fanning received the Defender of the Innocents Award.
In 2013 Fanning's latest true crime book, SLEEP MY DARLINGS she tells the story of Julie Schenecker, a Tampa mother charged with the murder of her two teen children. Also released in 2013 is the sixth book in her Virginia-based crime novel series, WRONG TURN, based on the character Lt. Lucinda Pierce, and the seventh book in the series is in preparation for publication. She is currently under contract for a new true crime book set in Virginia and a World War Two-era historical mystery .
Fanning has appeared on the Today Show, 48 Hours, 20/20, Forensic Files, Snapped, Justice with Judge Jeanine and multiple programs on the Biography Channel, Investigation Discovery, and CNN Headline News.
Celebrating 2013 as the year of her 20th published books, Diane Fanning has appeared at a number of book stores in Texas and with her move to Bedford, Virginia, will be available soon in surrounding areas to meet and greet a new audience of readers and fans.
