The blog cites examples and statistics from a January 2012 report, "State of Green Business 2012," published by GreenBiz.com. This report found that over half of Global Fortune 250 companies saw a gain in financial value from sustainability initiatives, and that 48% of S&P 500 companies are reporting environmental and social performance indicators.
Companies that enact these initiatives have realized great benefits, from cutting costs to generating revenue to driving innovation, and more. As examples of corporations that have seen benefits from their initiatives, the blog notes that FedEx estimates that before the end of 2013, they will have improved the fuel efficiency of their U.S. vehicle fleet by 22% compared to 2005. Con Agra reported savings of $22 million in 2012 by optimizing and improving their packaging and palletization.
