Avoiding the Pitfalls in Supply Chain Management

Jim Kelly from JVKellyGroup, a solution provider at the marcus evans CFO Summit XXI Fall 2010, on expense management for long-term success.

2010-08-12
LAS VEGAS, NV, August 12, 2010 (Press-News.org) These days, it is imperative that the Chief Financial Officer understand where the real risks are in their organization's supply chain. Even more importantly, organizations must take the steps required to ensure these costly pitfalls are avoided, advises James (Jim) V. Kelly, C.P.M., Chief Executive Officer of JVKellyGroup, a D&B Company. Jim is well qualified to weigh in on this topic, having been named one of Supply Chain Executive magazine's "Pros to Know" for each of the past four years.

JVKellyGroup, an innovative risk management solutions provider, will be participating in the marcus evans CFO Summit XXI Fall 2010, a gathering of industry leaders taking place in Las Vegas, November 4-6, 2010. Jim will be addressing the way to mitigate hidden supply chain risks that CFOs should watch out for and will also speak on expense management best practices.

What are some of the supply chain risks that CFOs should be aware of?

Jim Kelly: The invisibility of risk within the supply chain is a real problem for CFOs. Risks can come from a wide range of occurrences. It could be as complex as an outsourced company going through financial troubles or as simple as a supplier being listed on the US government's debarred list. This can expose your firm to negative publicity. Additionally, your firm could be barred from doing business with the US government if you deal with such suppliers.

Furthermore, as the economy starts to improve, we are going to see an increase in demand resulting from a recession created limited supply of goods and services. Right now, suppliers' inability to produce to current demand levels will create an upward pressure on price. The next problem that a CFO will have to contend with will be the pricing pressures on the company's expense base.
