New Year's Eve in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Celebrate New Year 2011 in one of the world's most desirable destinations Dubrovnik in Croatia!

2010-11-05
CROATIA November 05, 2010 (Press-News.org) The famous British writer George Bernard Shaw in 1929 wrote in his diary: „All those who seek paradise on earth should visit Dubrovnik." But much longer before the great British writer put down those words, Dubrovnik has been more than just a geographic mark on the map of the world. This citadel was the last safe haven on the sailway from nothwestern Adriatic towards the south.

Magical Dubrovnik is just one of the many pearls of the Adriatic, and of whole Croatia as well. New Year's party is just like in all other cities of the world, with lots of fun and music in the open. All that takes place on one of the most beautiful stages of the world, under the bell tower, where at midnight thousands of fireworks set off towards the sky. On New Year's Eve, on 31st of December, performers give farewell to the past year, by playing music and singing „kolenda", which is the best warm-up for the crazy New Year's party. „Kolenda" is a traditional Dubrovnik habit which includes singing „from one door to another" and in this way giving farewell to the past year and welcoming the new.

Visitors of Dubrovnik for the New Year 2011 will party with numerous Croatian celebrities, and a special treat will be a concert of Dubrovnik Symphonical Orchestra in Stradun, main street (and square) in Dubrovnik on New Year's Day, playing the most beautiful opera compositions.
Fancy visiting Dubrovnik during summer? You won't make a mistake, but Dubrovnik is so much different during New Year, having an extra charm, covered in a bit milder sunlight and with a touch of winds bringing moist air. Short winter days are ideal for sighsteeing and walks, after which you can indulge in wellness and spa or in gourmet and wine delicacies in warm restaurants and taverns. It is hard to name all delicacies specific for this part of Croatia, but what definitely deserves tasting are pancakes with marmalade made of bitter oranges, sugar coated lemon and orange peels with a glass of brandy that brings warmth just like traditional Dubrovnik „kolenda" does.
