BROOKLYN, NY, November 05, 2010 (Press-News.org) For over 150 years, the people of Greenpoint Church have faithfully served their community in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in many ways such as affordable housing, dinner/food pantry and encouraging the arts. They have also opened their doors to community organizations such as t is utilized by several community groups including the Greenpoint Williamsburg Youth Soccer League, Alcoholics Anonymousand Nar-Anon.
One parishioner, grateful for the many services of the church has provided over the years, decided to turn a time of heartache into one of rejoicing and giving. When her marriage plans went sour, instead of having a pity party she decided to donate the proceeds of her reception to help raise money for the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen.
She tells us:
âEURœBecause I had a lot of deposits for the wedding down, I decided to use them to do a fundraiser for the Soup Kitchen in my neighborhood. I've known the Pastor who runs it for a long time and she was really really helpful to me when I was going through the divorce. So the fundraiser isn't just a "doing good" thing -- it is really a way to give back to a community and people who have been there for me.
I have musicians, a credit where the reception was going to be held, the invitation designer agreed to do a design for the fundraiser, a letterpress guy to make the invitations, the dressmaker will give us a dress to raffle off and the coordinator has agreed to help us plan. I think that done right we could raise almost $10,000 -- a lot of food!âEUR
This two-part fundraiser will begin on December 5, 2010 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. with the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen Winter Gala at DresslerâEUR s and ends with the Online Auction on December 24, 2010.
The Gala will consist of light food, drink and fancy dress is optional. Standard tickets will be available for $100, Angel tickets will be $250. There is also a special fund for those patrons who wish to subsidize tickets for students and other low-income folks, suggested donation $50.
âEURœOur goal is to raise $10,000 with this fundraiser, so we are actively seeking donors for our cause. Please spread the word and letâEUR s get people fed in 2011.âEUR
Donations can be made at http://www.greenpointchurch.org or on our Facebook Page. For more information please contact Co-Pastor Ann M. Kansfield.
