NORWICH, ENGLAND, November 06, 2010 (Press-News.org) "Constantly updating your contacts is one of the most important things senior business people have to do," explains Belinda Lawson, owner of London-based PR agency, Lawson Dodd. "Be aware that when you meet people, whether that's in a social or business environment, there is an opportunity to make a contact."
Like any brand, Lawson believes you need to have decided what you want people to think about the business you're working for. And she should know. PR firms have to be an expert in making contacts, after all that is their business.
There are many traditional ways that you can build you contacts and also many new media ways that have opened the gate for you to contact people you may have never had the chance to prior to such things as the Internet and social media.
"One of the things which I think a lot of people forget when you meet a connection and you've got what you wanted from them, is that you will have to return the favour. It's a two way street," says Lawson.
Lawson is an advocate of Business Network International (BNI), which operates all over Europe as a way of bringing professionals together in a specific area. BNI is a professional organisation that allows only one person from each trade or profession to join a chapter. With over 5,576 active chapters, and 111,733 members, it is the most successful business referral organisation in the world.
