Leading used van retailer Anchor Vans attributes huge success of Volkswagen vans to rise in popularity of extreme sports

Having just been awarded the Fleet Van Manufacturer of the Year Award, Volkswagen vans are enjoying a successful year. Simon Joyce of Anchor Vans suggests that extreme sports are playing a large part in their success.

2010-11-06
READING, ENGLAND, November 06, 2010 (Press-News.org) Volkswagen has been awarded the Fleet Van Manufacturer of the Year Award, confirming its highly respected status in the commercial vehicle industry. Anchor Vans reports increased sales of Volkswagen vans, continuing an upward trend that has been seen for several years, however, Simon Joyce of Anchor Vans suggests that extreme sports are playing a large part in the popularity of used Volkswagen vans. For more information call 0118 9710 230 or go to http://www.anchorvans.co.uk.

"I was pleased to see that Volkswagen won the Fleet Van Manufacturer of the Year Award; I think it's well deserved and reflects their popularity with consumers," said Simon, Sales Director for Anchor Vans. "I can understand why fleet managers choose Volkswagen; they are so reliable and when you have many fleet vehicles on the road involved in critical tasks, that's a primary concern. We've seen a steady increase in the popularity of used VW vans over the past few years now," Simon commented, "And whilst I do believe their reliability is a big factor, I think the sales trend actually has a great deal to do with the rise in popularity of extreme sports, such as career surfing and snowboarding."

When asked to explain the connection, Simon said, "One of our most popular used vans is the Volkswagen Transporter van, and that's because it is the van of choice for the surfing community. So much so in fact that we launched a dedicated micro-site at http://www.surfwheels.co.uk to cater for their specific needs more efficiently. The vans are popular with snowboarders too," Simon added "as they are so reliable that they can be loaded up with everyone's gear and driven hundred of miles between resorts without any problems. We haven't seen such a clear correlation between a leisure pursuit and any other model of used van," Simon concluded.
