Tarps Plus Sends Tarps to Haiti in Wake of Major Hurricane Tomas
2010-11-07
PALMDALE, CA, November 07, 2010 (Press-News.org) Several months ago, the island of Haiti was affected by a severe earthquake. There were several thousand fatalities and more than one hundred thousand families were displaced, having lost their homes. Some companies provided emergency beach canopies and tarps, which was the key to survival for many families.

Now the earthquake-stricken area has been hit by hurricane Tomas, leaving destruction in its path. The leading U.S. tarps supplier has sent large tarp shipments to aid people with shelter.

A tarp is a large sheet of canvas cloth or strong plastic material, such as polyethylene. Generally, canvas tarps are firmer and sturdier, which is why truck drivers usually use canvas to protect truckloads from strong wind, dust and moisture that could cause damage.

During hurricane season, tarps should be on everyone's emergency supplies list. Most people are not sufficiently prepared for disaster. The poly tarps can protect a roof from strong winds during a hurricane or bad storm. If the home sustained some other kind of damage, the canvas can be used to create temporary shelter for the family.

According to international aid organizations, canvas camp tents are not as efficient as tarps, despite the fact that canvas tarps and tents are more costly. One could easily obtain a few tarpaulins at a good price from online stores. Setting up a tent using tarpaulins is quite easy, using ropes tied to trees.

Apart from using them during natural disasters, tarpaulins can be used for a number of purposes. Some purposes of these sheets include using them as dinner party tents and at picnics or camping trips. The tarps are often used on farms to protect hay and other items from rain, snow and strong winds.

Tarp Plus is one company that has supplied tarpaulins to Haiti and other areas struck by natural disasters. A spokesperson for the company stated, "We have been sending poly tarps to Haiti in large quantities since January and are very prepared to have the tarps sent fast."

Aid organizations find the tarps to be of extreme value in providing shelter for people that are displaced. Tents set up in different colors help them to easily show where help is needed and it also helps locals to find the help they need.

Tarps Plus is your wholesale connection for tarps, canvas tarps and multi-purpose covers.
