November 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) Most people find it unpleasant to contemplate their own death and what will happen afterward. Of course, the reality is that life will continue even after we're gone, which means we owe it to our families to prepare for our own passing.
Thoughtful Preparation
There are many important parts aspects of planning for the future, but none is more crucial than a carefully, thoughtfully written will. It's the legal document that makes clear to a spouse, children and the state of Florida how you want your assets to be distributed after death.
In Florida, if you die intestate, without a will, your assets will be distributed by the court according to the Florida Probate Code, rather than how you may have been planning. The best way to let courts and your family know exactly what is to be done with your things is to write a will.
Who Should Have a Will?
Many people put off the creation of a will. They think they'll wait until they've accumulated more money and other assets worth dividing. Yet when they look around and look at the possessions they have, they realize much of it has value, either monetarily or sentimentally, and would be important to a spouse or child.
So who should have a will? Virtually every adult should have one, including:
- Married people
- Parents
- Homeowners
- Business owners
- People with a 401(k), pension, retirement funds or savings
- Collectors
- Divorced people
- Everyone with a life insurance policy
We all know that life is unpredictable. Death is just as unpredictable. We don't know when it will come. But we can make what happens after our death more predictable for the next generation by preparing today.

Improving Safety for Victims of Domestic Violence in Connecticut
2010-11-11
Just five hours before she was brutally stabbed to death outside her apartment on Valentine's Day, Tiana Notice had told police that her ex-boyfriend continued his harassment of her.

Notice had repeatedly sought help in the weeks before her death, asking police in Waterbury, Plainville and Bloomfield to enforce a restraining ...

Not even Dr. Gomez's bank accounts were left. A woman had written out several checks to herself which ...

2010-11-11
A wide variety of injuries can take place on private property, including the home of a neighbor, family member or friend. Insurance companies offer homeowners polices to protect customers from property losses due to theft, fire, vandalism, weather and other causes. But basic policies also may cover claims ...
