APM Cool Shares When to Replace Your Commercial Compressor
2014-02-26
ATLANTA, GA, February 26, 2014 (Press-News.org) The Carrier compressors distributor, APM Cool, explains the ideal time to replace an AC compressor. Like any other machine, your AC system needs routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance and a critical part of that is replacing old or worn out parts when they are due.

Is it Time to Buy a New Commercial Compressor?

Depending on the age and condition of the machine, it may be in your best interest to buy a new compressor altogether instead of replacing the individual engine parts one at a time. The main reason being that when one component goes bad (especially due to age), you can be fairly confident that future repairs are in store.

On the other hand, if the compressor is fairly new and a single part goes bad for whatever reason (e.g. improper maintenance, defect, etc.), it is not necessarily cost-effective to buy new. To keep things simple, the Copeland compressor supplier offers advice on whether you should replace just the damaged part or the whole unit.

According to David DeBuc, Vice President of APM Cool, "If the compressor is 10 years or older, consider price-comparing new models. Not only will this save you the hassle of having to buy additional parts when they go bad, you are also getting the benefits of an energy-efficient system. Modern AC units are far more eco-friendly. Also check to see what type of refrigerant your current refrigeration compressor is using. R12 and R502 have been banned by the EPA, so a new machine might be in order."
