ATLANTA, GA, February 28, 2014 (Press-News.org) The first "Coupon Mom Olympics" was held on February 21 at the Coleman Village Kroger store in Roswell, GA. The event to benefit North Fulton Charities' Food Pantry raised over 1200 grocery items for charity worth $1900 in 30 minutes of competitive shopping.

Expert shoppers competed to see who could buy the most food with the greatest savings, and all food was donated to the food pantry to help the 100 families served each day.

"It was a great success in raising food for charity in a fun way," said Coupon Mom founder, Stephanie Nelson, "We appreciate that Kroger provided the prizes and the shopping location, and we really appreciate everyone that came out to volunteer and support this event."

In terms of totals for the Olympics, the checkout value of the groceries purchased was $1920 before tax, but the Coupon Mom contestants' total cost paid after using their coupons, store sales and strategy was only $240, a savings of 80%.

Expert coupon shopper Ashley Watson of Winder, Georgia won the Gold and received a $500 Kroger gift card. The Silver winner received $100, and the other contestants each received a $50 gift card.

Nelson said she even learned a few new tricks from these coupon savvy contestants.
