PETERSBURG, VA, March 03, 2014 (Press-News.org) In a historic agreement signed February 26th 2014, Richard Bland College of William and Mary secured a partnership with Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA) that offers dual enrollment to FUMA students seeking an early start to their college education. The dual enrollment program enables FUMA students to complete an Associate of Science degree at Richard Bland College while simultaneously fulfilling their high school graduation requirements. This partnership is in direct alignment with the Commonwealth of Virginia's Top Jobs of the 21st Century legislation and will contribute to the goal of 100,000 additional degrees for Virginians by 2025.
"We are thrilled to enter into this innovative partnership with Fork Union Military Academy," said Richard Bland College President Debbie L. Sydow, Ph.D. "Richard Bland College is on a quest to further the Commonwealth's degree attainment goals, and this partnership with FUMA represents a significant step forward."
The agreement between institutions requires FUMA to provide 32-34 credits of the Associate's degree program for its students (6 English, 6-8 math, 12 political science, 8 science). In turn, Richard Bland College will deliver the remaining 26-28 credits, with all courses provided in an accelerated, synchronous or asynchronous distance format. In-state FUMA students are required to pay in-state Richard Bland tuition, and out-of-state FUMA students are required to pay out-of-state Richard Bland tuition. The partnership commences March 1st, 2014 and will be renewed on a yearly basis.
"Richard Bland and Fork Union share similar goals that are rooted in the growth and success of our students," said FUMA President, Rear Admiral J. Scott Burhoe. "It's an honor to partner with a like-minded institution and be able to offer FUMA students a unique advantage."
