Photographer Olivia Barrionuevo's 'Reflections' Exhibit Explores Memory & Collective Experience

In her latest exhibition, photographer Olivia Barrionuevo turns her lens to "Reflections," exploring memory in relation to the collective experience, childhood and human spirit.

LOS ANGELES, CA, March 12, 2014 (Press-News.org) In celebration of Woman's Day, AVE 50 Studio in Highland Park, CA features a collection of female artists. Barrionuevo's work has received international attention and critical acclaim for its unique look into culture and humanity. "Reflections" combines her talent to capture the tone of her subjects as well as Barrionuevo's unique photographic vision.

Marianne Sadowski, curator/artist of the exhibit commented - "Through her photo installation, Oliva Barrionuevo explores memory. In some way autobiographical, from the first steps into life, with questions and thorns along the way, her poetic photographs depict moments of the journey to become a woman."

The exhibit, 'Women of Light and Shadow', will take place on March 8 from 7-9p.m. with a special performance by singer/songwriter Angela Roa at 9 p.m.

Over the past decade, Barrionuevo's has cultivated a unique body of work, including Mexican presidential campaigns. Her book, 'The Ancient Mexicans' was featured as part of a solo exhibit at the Mexican Consulate in 2012. Barrionuevo's photographs have been exhibited at The Center for Fine Arts, The Museum of Tolerance, University of Judaism, Self-Help Graphics, The Historical Lummis House, and Belenky Gallery in New York. Her work is also featured as a permanent collection of Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City.

Most recently, she won "Book of the Month" by A&I in 2012. In 2013 she was shortlisted for the prestigious scholarship award from "Lucie Foundation", and her work was auctioned this year at Casa Europa in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
