TAMPA, FL, March 13, 2014 (Press-News.org) Both the 2014 Chevy Silverado and 2014 Chevy Sierra earned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's highest rating in its New Car Assessment Program. They each received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety in all cab configurations. (1) Even more importantly, the 2014 Silverado and Sierra, now at Ferman Chevy of Tampa, are the first pickup trucks to receive top marks since the NHTSA's testing requirements were made more rigorous in 2011. (1)

These light trucks both use fully boxed frames and high-strength steel to underpin their safety systems. But they are also the only trucks in the segment to offer high-tech safety features like Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Safety Alert Seat. (1) This last feature alerts the driver to traffic approaching from the left or right by vibrating that side of the seat. (1) The available rear camera uses Dynamic Guidelines to assist in backing and parking maneuvers. (1)

These are pickup trucks, and they are expected to perform tasks most people wouldn't dare attempt in a commuter car. The Silverado and Sierra are both available with trailer sway control that works with the StabiliTrak traction control system to help the driver feel confident while towing a trailer. (1)

GM's OnStar service is also available, which uses GPS and cell phone signals to alert emergency personnel in the case of a crash. (1) Six airbags are standard on both trucks at Chevy dealers in Tampa, including head-curtain side-impact airbags. (1)
