Acura Sport Hybrid SH-AWD Chosen as Finalist for Green Car Technology Award, Notes Ferman Acura of Tampa
2014-03-14
TAMPA, FL, March 14, 2014 (Press-News.org) The innovative three-motor system in the 2014 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is in the running for Green Car Journal's 2014 Green Car Technology Award, which goes to automotive technologies that significantly improve environmental performance. (1) This is the first Acura to use this new system, which you can experience at Ferman Acura in Tampa. (1)

The basis for the system is a V6 engine that has been designed to achieve the power and sporty feel of a larger V8 engine while delivering the fuel economy of a smaller, four-cylinder engine. The V6 is lighter and has lower friction in its moving parts, which enhance the car's efficiency and power. (1)

In addition, the hybrid system has three electric motors to call on. In the front of the car, there's a 35 kW (47 hp) motor-generator mated to the seven-speed dual clutch transmission. This motor in particular assists in charging the lithium-ion battery pack using regenerative braking and the electricity generated by the gasoline-powered engine. (1) There are two 27 kW (36 hp) motors at the rear of the car providing power to the rear wheels for improved performance and handling, while also harnessing the power of regenerative braking for the batteries. (1)

Even the body of the 2014 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD at Tampa car dealerships has been lightened by 76 pounds by using aluminum in key areas. (1) All told, the hybrid system earns a best-in-class, EPA estimated fuel economy of 28 mpg city and 32 mpg highway (30 combined). (2)

By this time, the rock group's coming-out party on the Ed Sullivan Show in New York City was in the rear view mirror, as was John Lennon's infamous "we're more famous than Jesus" remark, which incited denunciation and Beatles record bonfires in the U.S. ...
