The Health Ranger Announces Fight for GMO Labeling

The Health Ranger, through Natural News, has begun lobbying for the labeling of GMOs.

2014-03-14
TUCSON, AZ, March 14, 2014 (Press-News.org) The Health Ranger founded Natural News in 2003 as a consumer advocacy website. Natural News, in its ten years online, has published thousands of articles on various health issues, including investigations into new technologies used in both agriculture and medicine. Natural News has received wide acclaim for its expert reporting, and has become the leader online for articles on health and natural products. Natural News, as well as the Health Ranger, have also been involved in various political campaigns. Natural News has allied itself with the Canary Party. It was also instrumental in the Supreme Court's decision to declare the copywriting of human genes illegal.

Natural News, however, has found a new target: GMOs. GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, are a growing concern. GMOs are a new and untested food technology. GMOs basically involve the modification of foods on a molecular level. This yields foods that grow bigger, are more resistant to chemicals, and produce more vitamins. While these may sound beneficial, this molecular modification can have severe effects on the human body. GMOs have already been linked to skin disease and the development of tumors. The long-term effects of GMOs on the body is largely unknown. No comprehensive studies have been conducted on their outcomes, and GMOs are far too new for any studies to have been completed. Due to the already established link between GMOs and certain health problems, however, many are worried that the long-term effects could be even worse.

Natural News believes GMOs need to be labeled. GMOs look almost identical to their unmodified counterparts. This means that the consumer, when buying meat or produce, is completely unaware when they are buying GMOs. The labeling of GMOs allows the consumer to know what they are buying and putting into their body. Even worse, many everyday foods are genetically modified without our even knowing it. Dr. Millstone of Essex University has said, "Increasingly, chemical companies are using genetically engineered bacteria in their manufacturing process without telling the public."

There is currently no legislation regulating the labeling of GMOs. Natural News is currently lobbying the government to enact such legislation. However, knowing the legal system can be long and treacherous, Natural News has also been lobbying various stores to enact labeling on their own. While the going is still slow, Natural News has already found its first victory with Whole Foods. Whole Foods has announced that it will label all its genetically modified food by 2018. While this one victory is amazing, Natural News still continues the fight for the proper labeling of genetically modified foods.

About: Natural News was launched in 2003, and has since become the most trafficked health new website on the internet. The site's founder is Mike Adams, known as the Health Ranger. Natural News recently debuted the Natural News Store as a source of organic foods, nutritional supplements, and super-foods.
