Tri-City Hospital Foundation Awarded over $1 million in Grants in 2013

Philanthropic funds for Tri-City Medical Center yield exciting new technologies impacting women's health, neonatal services and more

2014-03-21
OCEANSIDE, CA, March 21, 2014 (Press-News.org) Tri-City Hospital Foundation gave over $1 million in grants in calendar year 2013 to fund cutting-edge equipment and services to improve community health and wellbeing and saves lives at Tri-City Medical Center.

Grant recipients included the medical center's women's health program, NICU and orthopaedic program, among others. In the Women's Diagnostic Center, a $340,000 grant funded state-of-the-art digital mammography equipment to provide the highest quality images possible and support early breast cancer detection. Also positively impacting women's health services, the Foundation's $89,500 contribution helped purchase the Bio-Vision X-Ray system, which provides a way to electronically biopsy breast tissue, reducing the length of surgical procedures.

A $250,000 grant allowed Tri-City Medical Center to acquire the Sotera Wireless ViSi Mobile System, a groundbreaking solution for remotely and continuously monitoring patient vital signs after a surgery as well as collecting and analyzing patient data to improve patient care and outcomes. Additionally, Tri-City Medical Center is the first hospital in San Diego County to employ NICVIEW webcams in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which allow families with infants in intensive care to view newborns from any web-enabled device. Made possible through $58,000 in funds, NICVIEW technology is another way for Tri-City to provide excellent service to its patients and a new standard for connecting families with their newborns. In its first year alone, Tri-City's NICVIEW system served families on every continent in the world and allowed for close to 39,000 camera views.

These grant-funded breakthroughs are possible through the generous donations from private donors, corporations and charitable foundations throughout the year. They ensure Tri-City Medical Center continues to provide the absolute best services available to the surrounding community.

Tri-City Hospital Foundation also relies on events to raise funds each year. Its first major fundraising event of the year, Fashion That Heals, is scheduled for May 17, 2014 at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa. Continuing on last year's incredibly successful program, Fashion That Heals will feature a high-end trunk show, a champagne luncheon and a fashion show featuring TCMC employees. As the Foundation enters its 50th year in 2014, fundraising efforts will be ramped up even further to ensure record-breaking funding for a hallmark anniversary. Proceeds from the event will benefit women's heart health programs and services at Tri-City Medical Center.
