No Exceptions For #1 Indie DownTown Mystic
2014-03-24
NEW YORK, NY, March 24, 2014 (Press-News.org) Following on the heels of the surprise #1 single Way To Know, Americana/Roots Rocker DownTown Mystic releases the bluesy rocker No Exceptions as the next single to Americana Radio. The single has an infectious groove and features master blues harp player Nasty Ned, slide guitar wiz Justin "JJ" Jordan and the rhythm section for Ian Hunter's Rant Band--drummer extraordinaire Steve Holley & Urban Legend Paul Page on bass.

The full version of No Exceptions on the DownTown Mystic album has been given a radio edit for the single. DownTown Mystic writer/producer Robert Allen explains, "the song started as a simple riff, but it soon became apparent to me that it could become the centerpiece of the album if we could pull off the jam that I had in mind. Steve & Paul nailed down the groove, Nasty Ned wailed on the 1st take and JJ took it home. Ben (Engineer Ben Elliott) put it all together and did a killer mix, but I wasn't sure if Radio would play the full track, so I did an edit for the single. But if they play the full version they can hear Steve Holley's quip at the end, which I think is perfect. lol"

The current DownTown Mystic single Way To Know, released at the beginning of February and featuring Hall of Fame E Street Band rockers Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg, would cross over and reach #1 on the Alternative Rock Song Chart on the Roots Music Report, the world's #1 Independent Music Chart. Way To Know has been in the Top 10 for the past 6 weeks. The DownTown Mystic album would reach #3 on the RMR Alt/Rock Album Chart as well.

For an Indie Artist, the results have been impressive. Since its release, DownTown Mystic has spent over 5 months on the Americana Music Assn. Radio Charts, including 20 consecutive weeks of increased spins and reaching the Top 10 on the Roots Music Report and Roots 66 Airplay Charts. It's also been in the Top 10 this month on the Americana/AAA Global Radio Charts on AirPlay Direct.

Thanks to DownTown Mystic doing so well at Radio, Robert is starting to get interest from Nashville, where he is currently pitching his songs to Modern Country Artists. DownTown Mystic is also about to have music included in an upcoming Indie film due out at the end of the year called From Point A To Point B that's already receiving a good deal of buzz in Hollywood.

Adding to the success of DownTown Mystic, Robert recently scored a big music placement on the CW's Carrie Diaries with a song he wrote and produced. Robert credits associate Eddie Caldwell/Music of The Sea, for getting the song to LA's top Music Supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas/Chop Shop Music. The song And You Know Why, which featured a female vocal, would be the only Indie song used on the show. Robert's latest Sync Licensing venture is a collaboration with Beat Bros. Desi Desmond & Panauh Kalayeh on a TV project for Beatclock Productions.

"the sinewy, snarled blues of No Exceptions and its tremendous harp wailing, guitar thrashing rush which builds into a fine frenzy. It's a bit like the Allman Brothers doing an Exile on Main St song" ...Paul Kerr/Blabber'n'Smoke

"Give this gem a good listen. You won't regret it!" ...Dani Heyvaert/Rootstime

"Allen's influences -- Byrds, Beatles, Buffalo Springfield -- permeate his guitar-driven songs, adding a retro sound to his more modern Americana leanings" ...Dave Curtis/Direct Current
