LONG ISLAND, NY, March 26, 2014 (Press-News.org) LongIslandNY.tv, a web-based TV network operating out of Long Beach NY, is airing a multi-segment program called The Anti-Drug Show as a response to a series of drug-related deaths in the vicinity.
The program's executive producer and host, David Feldman, who is also one of the network's partners, commented: "I knew some of these kids personally. They were great kids, and it's important to dispel the myth that addiction strikes only certain demographics. Everyone is at risk. Addiction is a truly democratic disease."
The initial programs were interviews with a mother, Nancy R., whose son, Jesse, had struggled with addiction, and was a victim of a heroin overdose in December at age 21.
Episodes of the program have spanned addiction-related topics, from interviews with a counsellor from Westhampton's Seafield Treatment Center, to an interview with Dr. Joseph Smith, Executive Director of Long Beach Reach, a local treatment center that has recently expanded to Lynbrook and Port Washington, to the chair of Nassau County's Drug Abuse Task Force, Eden Laikin, demonstrating how to use Narcan, which can reverse overdoses.
A forum sponsored by the City of Long Beach, mediated by Police Commissioner Michael Tangney, is being aired in segments, and will run in its entirety. Upcoming programs will include parents who have lost children to addiction telling their family's stories.
