The Gamer's Armory to Host Icefall Championship Benefit

Proceeds of Magic: The Gathering Event Will Be Donated to Local Gamer in Need

2014-03-28
CARY, NC, March 28, 2014 (Press-News.org) The Gamer's Armory has announced that they will host an Icefall Championship on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 9:00am until midnight to benefit a member of the local gaming community in need. The all-day Magic: The Gathering (Magic) event will offer attendees Magic tournaments, Chick-Fil-A's Spin Wheel with special prizes, food, baked goods and raffles for rare Magic collector's items. Every entry fee will be accompanied by a mystery Gold Rush Magic Envelope. Anyone who purchases 5 raffle tickets for $20.00 will also receive a mystery Gold Rush Magic Envelope. Proceeds will be donated to a fund established to help a local gamer with substantial medical bills.

Providing hours of family fun, the store will host numerous Magic: The Gathering game opportunities for adults and kids of all ages. From beginners just learning the game to experienced players, there will be something for everyone throughout the day, including Booster Drafts, Sealed events, Minimasters Tournaments, and Frankendrafts. The Championship will also include Standard, Modern, and Legacy Constructed Events (with proxies); Commander 8-man Head to Head queues, and an exciting Build your own Standard queue. Detailed information can be found at http://www.gamersarmory.com/index.php/icefall-championship-april-12-2014.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game first published in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. The game, played by two or more players each using a deck of trading cards, represents a battle between wizards who employ spells, artifacts, and creatures depicted on individual Magic cards to defeat their opponents. With more than 13,000 unique cards and 12 million active players globally, Magic represents the biggest brand in Hasbro's $1.2 billion games portfolio with an organized tournament system and a community of professional Magic players.

The Gamer's Armory has developed an extensive local community of Magic players and regularly hosts drafts and constructed tournaments as well as a Junior Magic League for Players 16 and under every Saturday Night. It is this community that the store is turning to in order to help one of their regular players who recently suffered serious injuries in a fall during the January ice storm that hit the Triangle area and is facing mounting medical bills.

"We feel an integral part of actually calling yourself a 'community' is helping others in that community in times of need," said Scott Blanton, owner of The Gamer's Armory. "This particular member of our Magic community has been instrumental in helping our store succeed and deserves our full support during a difficult time. This special event is in addition to our annual 24 Hour Marathon event held in the fall to benefit Turner Syndrome Society of the United States."

"Since the beginning, our benefit recipient has volunteered countless hours to help us grow and foster our Magic Community," said Crystal Blanton, Co-Owner of The Gamer's Armory. "Now that he has found himself in need of our help, we are delighted to host the Icefall Championship to raise funds as a small token of how much we appreciate all that he has done to help us be successful."

Local sponsors of the Icefall Championship include Spiral Graphics, Alliance Distribution, Chick-Fil-A Crossroads Plaza, Dairy Queen, Jersey Mike's, McDonald's, CEI, Adam Skelding Designs and Baking Better. Donations for raffle items are currently being accepted.
