Blue Flag is a non-profit organization that promotes clean, sustainable, beaches and harbors. There are 32 requirements that must be met, and each year beaches must re-qualify. The beach should have easily accessible waste bins and recycling containers, and should be devoid of trash. First aid and emergency equipment should be easily accessible, with wheel chair access provided. The Blue Flag award also focuses on education, stipulating that environmental information must be available about the beach and eco systems surrounding the area.
