HOUSTON, TX, March 31, 2014 (Press-News.org) A new student reception for the South Texas College of Law was recently hosted by the Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend. The networking and welcome event brought together newly admitted students and alumni of the South Texas College of Law, including several attorneys from Abraham Watkins.
Firm Partners Randy Sorrels ('87), Benny Agosto, Jr. ('95), Daniel Horowitz ('02) and firm Associate Brant Stogner ('06) have established thriving law practices after completing their legal education at the South Texas College of Law and continue to remain active with their law school alma mater.
The Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics occupy the Tenth Floor of the Tower Building and provide a professional space for South Texas students to learn about the practice of law and meet the legal needs of Houston's underserved residents. In the 2011-2012 academic year, students provided 8,500 hours of free legal services, including advocating for affordable access to justice, through the civil practice clinics at the South Texas College of Law.
Randy Sorrels, Benny Agosto, Jr. and Daniel Horowitz were named to the inaugural South Texas College of Law 1923 Society, based in part on their financial contributions to the law school. A donation from Benny Agosto, Jr., helped make the Benny and Nikki Agosto Children's Waiting Room in the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics possible. A plaque outside the conference room of the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics hangs in honor of firm partner Daniel Horowitz's father, memorializing a generous donation made to the clinics by Mr. Horowitz.
The entire legal team at Abraham Watkins proudly supports the South Texas College of Law through mentoring relationships with current and prospective law students, scholarships, and mock trial events. Mr. Agosto established the Bernardino and Marina Agosto Scholarships, given annually to Hispanic graduates of the South Texas College of Law, and delivered the commencement address to the December 2013 graduating class. Mr. Agosto and Mr. Stogner have each served on the South Texas College of Law Alumni Association Board of Directors. Mr. Stogner is a founding member of the South Texas College of Law Young Alumni Council and serves as an Adjunct Advocacy Professor.
The Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend congratulates all newly admitted law students and wishes each aspiring lawyer success and perseverance in the years of study and training that lie ahead.
Established in 1951, Abraham Watkins is Texas' oldest personal injury law firm. From offices in Houston, the firm represents individuals and families throughout Texas who have been seriously injured or have lost a loved one in a motor vehicle accident, trucking accident, workplace accident, oil and gas accident or due to a dangerous medical device or defective product.
