TAMPA, FL, April 01, 2014 (Press-News.org) Although gambling addiction affects two million Americans a year, it remains unrecognized and is often overshadowed by other addictions, disorders and social issues. This makes it difficult enough to identify the problem gambler and connect them to treatment, much less address the impact on their loved ones. Spouses, in particular, experience depression, trauma, anxiety and the extreme stress of maintaining family stability.
Dr. Damon Dye, EdD, LMHC, a mental health professional at Triangle Resolutions, a counseling, education and resource center in the Tampa Bay area, has been treating gamblers and their spouses for over ten years. As a result, he felt compelled to write a book as a resource for the innocent victims - the spouses and loved ones of those suffering from gambling addiction who find themselves defenseless in the fray.
"There are many tragic consequences when someone is battling a gambling addiction and unable to connect with treatment that also addresses the needs of their family," says Dr. Dye. "My goal is to provide a resource that recognizes the emotional and psychological needs of spouses and loved ones and offers a lifeline to people who may feel stigmatized or traumatized through no fault of their own."
Dr. Dye's book, Know When To Hold 'Em: A guide for spouses of problem gamblers, offers guidance to gamblers, spouses, loved ones, and treatment professionals, providing tools for choosing treatment, improving communication, rebuilding relationships, and creating the best environment for recovery and marital happiness. Problem gamblers and their families face tough realities, but there is help and hope. This book provides insight so a spouse will: know when to listen... know when to set boundaries... know when to seek professional help... know when to ask questions... and know when to hold 'em.
Know When To Hold 'Em: A guide for spouses of problem gamblers is now available through Amazon.com. Click here to contact Dr. Dye for more information about the release of Know When To Hold 'Em and the treatment available for gamblers and their families.

Digital mammography reduces recall and biopsy rates

OAK BROOK, Ill. – Population-based screening with full-field digital mammography (FFDM) is associated with lower recall and biopsy rates than screen film mammography (SFM), suggesting that FFDM may reduce the number of diagnostic workups and biopsies that do not lead to diagnosis of breast cancer, according to a new study published online in the journal Radiology.
Previous population-based studies comparing the accuracy of SFM versus FFDM have reported conflicting results, and reported recall rates—or the rate at which women are called back for additional tests—have ...

2014-04-01
WASHINGTON, DC, March 26, 2014 — A new study suggests that for most adolescents, becoming more popular both increases their risk of getting bullied and worsens the negative consequences of being victimized.
