When Cops Kill Nominated For IPPY Award Book Nominated As Best Reference Book and Legal/Current Event Book of the Year

Book Deals With All Scenarios Law Enforcement Officers Find Themselves In After A Violent Altercation

2014-04-03
ATLANTA, GA, April 03, 2014 (Press-News.org) When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident (ISBN 978-1-61005-293-1, Blue Line Lawyer, 2013) by Lance LoRusso has been nominated for the prestigious "IPPY" Awards, also known as the Independent Publishers Book Awards in two categories - reference and legal/current events. When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident by LoRusso, is a comprehensive book for law enforcement and family members of law enforcement officers to deal with the aftermath of the law enforcement officer having been involved in a shooting or violent alteration with a suspect. Proceeds from the sales of When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident go to charities benefitting disabled law enforcement officers. Conducted annually, the "IPPY" Awards honor the year's best independently published titles from around the world. The competition is held by the Independent Publishers Association of America. The "IPPY" Awards were conceived as a broad-based, unaffiliated awards program open to all members of the independent publishing industry, and are open to authors and publishers worldwide who produce books written in English and intended for the North American market. Winners will be announced this summer in New York City on the eve of BookExpo America, the nation's premiere publishing trade show.

"I am honored that When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident has been nominated for the IPPY Award," said Lance LoRusso. "Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day, they are the true unsung heroes of America and this book is dedicated to them. It is my hope that this book helps law enforcement officers and their families in their journey to understand and cope with the most traumatic part of the job - an officer involved shooting.

When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident deals with the aftermath of a shooting or violent altercation and the array of issues that confront law enforcement officers after the event. The book deals with the media coverage that will follow such an incident, the administrative and criminal investigations, the potential of a civil lawsuit and how to deal emotionally with such an incident. The book is an excellent resource for law enforcement officers and their family members for the day when the call of duty leads to more than a random warrant being served or ticket being issued. LoRusso draws on his hands-on experience as a former law enforcement officer as well as an attorney who represents law enforcement officers.

Lance LoRusso is the Principal of the LoRusso Law Firm located in Atlanta, Georgia. He has a healthcare and law enforcement background, and focuses his practice on general liability defense for individuals and corporations, medical malpractice defense, healthcare law and catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases on behalf of injured parties and affected families. His representation of law enforcement, healthcare systems, professional organizations and corporate clients has provided a broad range of expertise and earned him a reputation as an attorney committed to resolving complex client problems in a professional and cost efficient manner. A former officer, LoRusso is a strong advocate for Georgia law enforcement. He serves as General Counsel to the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police as well as Lodge Attorney for Cobb County's Lodge 13 of the Fraternal Order of Police. Additionally, he responds to the scene critical incidents on behalf of law enforcement officers.

The "IPPY" Awards are the world's largest book awards competition. The "IPPY" Awards, launched in 1996, are designed to bring increased recognition to the deserving but often unsung titles published by independent authors and publishers. Established as the first awards program open exclusively to independents, over 3,000 "IPPYs" have been awarded to authors and publishers around the world.
