DUBAI, UAE, April 04, 2014 (Press-News.org) Ras Al Khaima-based Y.L Marketing has created the first of its kind "Who Called Me" service for the United Arab Emirates, containing over 40,000 known annoying caller numbers.
This is an effort by Y.L Marketing to battle the growing number of phone such as the Pakistani based operation that claims Etisalat mobile subscribers have won a 200,000 AED reward then proceeds to ask victims to buy 1000 AED worth of phone credit in different denominations and read out their codes to claim the non-existent prize.
Recently, a growing number of similar scams have emerged targeting Du subscribers as well.
Y.L Marketing CEO, Jim Yaghi says UAE residents can use the site at whomisscalled.com to look up any unknown callers or dodgy numbers that miss-call their phone.
"With over 40,000 known numbers in our database, and growing daily, UAE residents can find out exactly who the number belongs to, where it comes from, and then either report the number or read reports made by others."
Similarly the service helps identify telemarketers, sales calls, and debt collectors that users may not wish to call back.
Yaghi adds that the portal combines user-contributed reports plus some automatically detected information such as the location of the caller, the carrier they use, type of number (Landline/Mobile) and known websites where the phone number in question appears.
The site is still in beta as Y.L Marketing continue to build their community contributed data.
Yaghi says some planned features coming in the next few weeks include the ability to identify the company and the type of call. As well as the ability to exchange notes with other users, vote, and rank the most active phone scam on any given day.
