LOS ANGELES, CA, April 04, 2014 (Press-News.org) Two years ago celebrity jewelry designer and photographer Beth Yorn began volunteering her time with Compton Jr. Posse (CJP), a Compton based program that teams inner city kids with horses. While working with CJP Yorn met Shola Oyefeso, a high school student that showed a keen interest in photography. The two linked up, with Yorn mentoring Oyefeso by helping her to further develop her photography skills, including guiding her through the process of paper selection and framing. To teach the business side of being an artist, plans are in the works for Beth to assist in setting up an e-commerce site for Shola's work on Etsy. In addition, one of Shola's debut photographs of a horse and rider will be available during the silent auction at the upcoming Compton Jr. Posse 7th Annual Gala on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The proceeds from the artwork will go to benefit the Compton Jr. Posse program.
"Working with Beth has been really cool. She has helped continue to develop my eye for photography," said Shola Oyefeso. "I'm very excited about the image I chose being a silent auction item for the CJP Gala and having my own Etsy store," continued Oyefeso.
"I really enjoy working with CJP," said Beth Yorn. "It's an amazing program that exposes the students to experiences they otherwise might not have the opportunity to participate in. Being able to work one on one with students like Shola and to share my interests is very rewarding," continued Yorn.
Beth Yorn is a former Ford and Wilhelmina model turned jewelry designer and owner of Elisabeth Bell Jewelry (EBJ). Elisabeth Bell Jewelry is handcrafted in Yorn's Los Angeles Studio. The line includes its signature pendant necklaces, as well as more recently added earrings, rings and bangles. EBJ is worn and loved by the designer's celebrity fans, including Cameron Diaz, Mimi Rogers, Maria Menounos, Rose McGowan, Reese Witherspoon, Sophia Bush and Kate Hudson. Yorn's interests also extends into photography. Six months ago, Yorn hosted her debut photo exhibit at RoseArk which included four years worth of images - many taken on the road while touring with rocker husband Peter Yorn.
For 25 years, the Compton Jr. Posse's award-winning program has given inner city kids a framework for success by teaming them with horses and highly skilled instructors including Olympic Gold Medalist Will Simpson. CJP provides year round after school programs using equestrian activities to inspire excellence in academics and to help develop responsibility, discipline and self-esteem.
The Compton Jr. Posse (CJP) will host its 7th Annual Gala Fundraiser on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 6 p.m. in the Ballroom at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, 480 Riverside Drive in Burbank. The "Cowboy Couture" themed event will feature actress and producer Patricia Heaton-Hunt (The Middle, Everybody Loves Raymond) as the Master of Ceremonies. Olympian Will Simpson will serve as host and awards presenter. Business woman and philanthropist, Jami Morse Heidegger will be honored with the Equestrian Excellence award. Joe Edmiston, Executive Director of the Mountain Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) will be honored with the Community Visionary award. The honoree for the Starlight Entertainment Award will be announced in the coming weeks.
Tickets to the CJP Gala start at $200 per person and tables of ten at $2,000. For additional information on ticket pricing and sponsorship opportunities please visit http://www.comptonjrposse.org
