LEXINGTON, KY, April 10, 2014 (Press-News.org) When people think of health, they typically just think of general health, not the condition of the teeth and gums. Oral health is just as important as overall health because dental problems can negatively affect a patient's overall health.
Patients are instructed to brush and floss their teeth on a daily basis, and this is to keep plaque bacteria at bay. However, bad oral hygiene only spurs further bacteria growth and the development of acid, which eats away at tooth enamel.
Once tooth decay develops, a patient has already made a dent in his/her oral health. If a cavity isn't taken care of and it grows, more serious issues will arise, such as an abscessed tooth or tooth loss.
Decay, tooth loss and an abscessed tooth require a particular type of treatment. It's called restorative treatment. These procedures take a damaged tooth and build it back up for functional and esthetic purposes.
At TLC Dentistry, Drs. John A. Thompson, William E. Lee and Pada Chalothorn have integrated restorative services into their practice for the sole purpose of restoring the natural tooth. However, tooth loss can occur, and that's when restorative services serve another purpose-to replace a missing tooth.
Common prosthetic devices used for restorative and tooth replacement strategies include full or partial dentures, dental implants, dental crowns and bridges. Recently in dentistry, especially at TLC's office in Lexington, dental implants have moved to the forefront, providing permanent tooth replacement with the help of a screw-like root and the process of osseointegration.
Not too long ago TLC Dentistry was covered in a local news segment. TLC Dentistry provided "Stone Cold Willow" with three new synthetic teeth. Dr. Pada Chalothorn was responsible for providing most of TLC Dentistry's services. Check out the full story on TLC Dentistry's website (see URL below).
