SEOUL, KOREA, April 18, 2014 (Press-News.org) JewelDistrict officially launches its 3D printing service and marketplace specializing in printing precious metal jewelry. Unlike its larger competitors Shapeways and i.materialise, who print everything from figurines to robotics and drones, JewelDistrict focuses solely on 3D printing of jewelry. According to the company's CEO, Sungdo Lee, 3D printing technology has the greatest potential to dramatically change the jewelry industry. While most 3D printed products are limited to decorative purposes only, 3D printed jewelry is readily wearable and the creative dimensions are limitless. Jewelry designers can create geometrically complex designs that can only be achieved by 3D printing. Additionally, since jewelry is often bought as a gift to a special person, there is a tremendous market for personalization of jewelry. This personalization is easily achievable through customized 3D printing.
How It Works
Designers upload their 3D designs and choose the materials. Models can currently be printed in silver or brass. Due to its specialization in jewelry, JewelDistrict offers the widest choice of surface finishes, plating, and stone setting options. The company also has the shortest production time of 5 days for raw brass and silver, and 10 days for various satin or polished finishes and plated jewelry, compared to 3 to 4 weeks for competitors' products. JewelDistrict ships worldwide. Designers will soon be able to sell their jewelry via the JewelDistrict online shop and JewelDistrict also plans to launch a jewelry customization app for customers.
JewelDistrict is located in central Seoul's jewelry district, where the vast majority of Korea's jewelry is produced and sold. Seoul's tech-savvy designers have quickly adopted 3D printing techniques with many using 3D printing on a daily basis. By cooperating with local workshops and skilled craftsmen, JewelDistrict aims to provide the most competitive 3D printing and jewelry production services in the world.
The advantage for designers who partner with JewelDistrict is the high quality of the final product resulting from JewelDistrict's specialization in jewelry printing, the low cost, and the short production times. Successful designs can be stored and reproduced at any time and in any amount which brings tremendous revenue opportunities for designers. Additionally, there is no risk of being left with unsold products. 3D printing is a means to reduce cost, to create better designs, and to shorten manufacturing cycles. There are exciting times ahead for the 3D printing industry of jewelry.
JewelDistrict is headquartered in Jong-no, Seoul, Republic of Korea. The company was founded in 2011 and entered the 3D printing industry in 2013. JewelDistrict's team of 6 consists of programmers who have more than 10 years of experience in 3D programming and a successful jewelry designer who studied and worked in the UK, and Japan.
Mission statement:
The company aims to provide jewelry designers with the highest quality 3D jewelry printing services. The company strives to offer its services at the most competitive prices and with the shortest production times in the industry. JewelDistrict is building a marketplace for creative jewelry where customers can connect with and buy from jewelry designers.
