RICHMOND, VA, April 18, 2014 (Press-News.org) While many colleges nationwide are reporting a decrease in college application numbers this spring, Richard Bland College of William & Mary announced today that they are at 200% of last year's applications to date. Richard Bland, the Commonwealth's premiere residential two-year College located in Petersburg, has received 1050 applications as of April 10, while the same time a year ago they had just over 500.
"In today's market, colleges focused on saving students time and money are thriving," says Dr. Debbie L. Sydow, President of Richard Bland College. "Tightening up transfer pathways, adding STEM and other relevant academic program options, enhancing public and private partnerships-it's all about prioritizing our students and their success. I'm happy to see the application rate reflect that we're heading in the right direction."
Since 2013, Richard Bland College has finalized guaranteed transfer agreements with most public and private universities in Virginia. They rejoined the National Junior College Athletic Association and added sports like basketball, cheerleading, soccer and track while most schools are removing them. Richard Bland also established duel enrollment programs with schools like Fork Union Military Academy, encouraging students to get a head start on a four-year degree. Combined with affordability, a reputation for academic excellence and a William & Mary brand, it's no wonder Richard Bland College has seen such growth in applicants.
