2011 Youth Empowerment Retreat Initiative Celebrates Public-Private Partnership
Morgan State University and The KARS Consulting Group, LTD Join Forces to Support Youth & Families

Organizers of The 2011 Youth Empowerment Retreat (YER) Initiative are pleased to announce an innovative partnership approach that welcomes new partners Morgan State University's Entrepreneurial Development & Assistance Center (EDAC) and The KARS Consulting Group, LTD to the fold. The 2011 YER Initiative is organized as a year-long slate of activities designed to empower, motivate, encourage, enlighten and energize youth and parents through knowledge, education and opportunity.

The "2011 Youth Empowerment Retreat" (YER) Initiative is the next logical step in addressing the chronic problems that youth and their parents have been facing and organizers are looking to go beyond the traditional to develop a new model that address issues of truly empowering our youth to take on leadership positions and then provide them with actual opportunities to apply their new-found knowledge.

Through the four-phrase program, 100-150 at-risk youth ages 8-18 in the Baltimore area will participate in a series of activities, workshops, community service initiatives, mentoring programs and training opportunities designed to provide both youth and parents with the knowledge they need, the opportunity they've been seeking and the opportunity to do more for themselves and their community. Additionally, leaders of youth- and family-focused community organizations will be engaged to work collaboratively to develop partnerships and solutions to the long-standing problems plaguing youth and their families.

Partners Morgan State University's EDAC and The KARS Consulting Group, LTD are indicative of the new direction of engagement that organizers are hoping to develop. Through this partnership, each organization has signed on to provide support and resources to the initiative, with Morgan State University Entrepreneurial Development & Assistance Center (EDAC) serving as host location for workshop and seminar sessions and The KARS Consulting Group serving as facilitator and presenter of an innovative new Community Leaders Collaborative for attendees.

"This is exactly the type of partnerships that we're hoping will develop and continue," said Dr. Tekemia Dorsey, founder of The 2011 YER Initiative. "With Morgan State University's EDAC and The KARS Consulting Group on board as partners, we're redefining what it means to truly operate in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration and include representation from all segments of the community."
