2010-11-19
BARCELONA, SPAIN, November 19, 2010 (Press-News.org) Opera enthusiasts have the opportunity to see Falstaff - one of Guiseppe Verdi's most famous and enjoyable works - during their stay in the cheap hotels Barcelona has available.

The piece, which is a co-production with the Welsh National Opera, is being staged on various dates between December 9th and 29th 2010 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

"Falstaff is one of Verdi's few forays into comic opera," remarked the organisers.

"The leading character, despite his inevitable 'buffo' traits and his grasping, calculating hedonism, possesses a natural dignity and intelligence which make him deeply endearing."

During the story, which is told in three acts, two wealthy women get their own back on the titular hero for attempting to court them both.

It is a hugely funny production and visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the opera by heading to the foyer of the venue 45 minutes before the show begins.

Anyone with a ticket for the performance is welcome to attend this informative talk and there will no doubt be all sorts of interesting insights shared by the speakers.

The show kicks off at 20:00 local time most days, with tickets starting from EUR7.50 (GBP6.40) and available to buy online.

Based on Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor, Falstaff was the third of Verdi's operas to be based on stories by the Bard.
