Stouch Lighting Announces Upper Merion Township Signs Proposal for LED Lighting Project

Municipality Building Installing LED Lighting in Parking Garage and Parking Lot

2010-11-21
ASTON, PA, November 21, 2010 (Press-News.org) Stouch Lighting today announced that Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, PA has awarded them to supply and install LED lighting fixtures in a municipal parking garage and parking lot. The LED lighting fixtures are energy efficient and will enhance the lighting quality, to in turn meet the township's objectives to increase security and generate energy savings for the township.

Upper Merion Township received the Conservation Works grant from the DEP through the Federal Government stimulus package with the EPA. The grant is a Pennsylvania, one-time grant for motivated local governments and non-profit entities with projects that will save or conserve a minimum of 25% of all energy used. Saving 25% on energy bills and putting back to work local labor, using local Pennsylvania products, improving the environment; is a winning combination for the recipient of the grant as well as a winning combination for economic recovery.

"Exploring the value of LED lighting fixtures, getting the best solution, and achieving at least a 25% increase in energy efficiency; which in turn reduces energy consumption and energy costs through efficiency improvements; is an important component to building a more energy conscience township," said Robert Norman P.E., the Director of Public Works for Upper Merion Township. "Retrofitting the municipal parking garage and parking lots will be a tremendous benefit for our township and the community in order to become more 'green' while increasing productivity to spur economic growth and community development."

The lighting retrofit project began in mid October, 2010 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of November in 2010. Stouch Lighting has already replaced (40) 175 watt metal halide fixtures with (29) 70 watt LED recessed troffer fixtures in the parking garage. While the light levels in the parking garage increased, energy consumption reduced by 75%. Stouch lighting will be replacing (43) 175 watt metal halide pole lights with (43) 53 watt LED parking lot fixtures. Currently 10 of the parking lot lights are up and working. The light levels in the parking lot will increase, and the projected energy savings is a reduction of 70% in energy consumption.

The LED fixtures being installed in the parking garage and in the parking lot are maintenance free with no lamps or ballast to replace and include a five year total fixture warranty. The LED fixtures have a rated life of over 50,000 hours and a life expectancy of up to 20 years.

"We are proud to be a part of Upper Merion's decision to employ sustainable, energy efficient technologies in the township," said President/CEO Ted Stouch. "This project utilitizing our LED Lighting fixtures demonstrates that LED lighting is an environmentally beneficial lighting alternative that also improves the quality of light which increases security, while generating significant energy savings."
