SUWANEE, GA, November 21, 2010 (Press-News.org) UroMed, a leading national catheter supply company, proudly supported the 5th Annual Walk-N-Roll benefitting the Spina Bifida Association of Georgia on Sunday, November 13, 2010. The Walk-N-Roll raised awareness for Spina Bifida as participants navigated a 3K route through Piedmont Park in Atlanta. More than 20 UroMed employees volunteered to participate in the walk in addition to the company sponsorship of the event.

"UroMed continually supports non-profit associations and related events that help our patients with ongoing resources, education programs and assistance for managing their conditions. We are an avid sponsor of the Spina Bifida Association and thoroughly enjoyed helping them at this year's Walk-N-Roll," said Craig Stevens, President and CEO of UroMed.

According to the Spina Bifida Association of Georgia, Spina Bifida is the most common permanently-disabling birth defect. It affects eight births per day in the United States; currently an estimated 180,000 people in the United States are living with Spina Bifida. The Spina Bifida population in Georgia is estimated to be up to 3,000 children and adults.

People with Spina Bifida potentially face additional medical concerns, including:
• Latex Allergy
Research studies have shown that up to 73% of children and adolescents with Spina Bifida are sensitive to latex. UroMed carries a complete line of Latex-Free catheters and urological products for patients with latex sensitivities.

• Urologic Care and Management: Using Catheters
According to the Spina Bifida Association, the urologic care of children with Spina Bifida has undergone several important changes in the last decade. The emphasis is now on early catherization of the child's lower urinary tract function and preventive treatment to preserve both kidney and bladder function in an attempt to maximize the child's long-term health.

UroMed provides only the highest quality catheters and medical supplies from the leading name brand urology and incontinence supply manufacturers to help parents and caregivers with the most effective and reliable products for their child's care. Also, many of UroMed's employees have a personal connection to their customers' needs, as 20% of UroMed's customer service associates either has a disability or has a family member with a disabling condition.

Spina bifida customers who order catheters, urological supplies and continence care products at UroMed will receive complimentary delivery along with a wide range of support services from UroMed, including hassle-free insurance billing.
