Redspottedhanky.com Urges People to Book in Advance to Avoid Fare Rises

Redspottedhanky.com is urging travellers to book train tickets in advance to avoid the fare rises that have been put in place.

2010-12-09
LONDON, ENGLAND, December 09, 2010 (Press-News.org) Redspottedhanky.com is encouraging customers to book train tickets ahead of time in order to prevent them paying more than they need now that many fares have been increased. Train travellers across the UK booking tickets for the New Year will be faced with higher fares, with an average increase of 5.8 per cent for journeys made from January 2011.

Analysis by redspottedhanky.com shows that despite an average increase, train companies have not raised their cheapest fares, giving train travellers the opportunity to save money by booking train tickets in advance.

"Train companies have not increased their cheapest fares, which is especially important at a time when the whole of the country is feeling the squeeze," says Andrea Morgan, director, redspottedhanky.com.

Whilst the cheapest fares have not been increased the more expensive fares have. Peak time travellers who buy from the station on the day of travel will be hardest hit with most intercity routes increasing by more than the average.

In order to avoid the increase in fares, Andrea Morgan strongly urges customers to book in advance online. To save even more train travellers should consider changing the times they travel to off peak.

"Very few of the cheapest ticket prices offered in 2010 by train operators will increase in 2011. Journeys between London and Sheffield actually cheaper in 2011 by 7.4 per cent," continued Andrea Morgan.

Booking train tickets in advance online can save passengers money on the fare, compared to tickets bought at the ticket office on the day of travel. These cheap train tickets are usually released by train operators up to 12 weeks in advance of the journey.

About redspottedhanky.com:

For regular train travellers in these cash-strapped times, participation in the loyalty scheme would allow them to earn points for redemption against future rail travel and be rewarded beyond the price of a single ticket.
