COSTA MESA, CA, December 09, 2010 (Press-News.org) In a time when young couples are trying to make the most out of their wedding day and the budget is more limited than ever, strapped fiances are finding themselves dancing from the alter to the reception floor. Today's brides are finding creative ways to spice up their wedding day, and salsa dancing has just the right amount of heat.
COSTA MESA, CA, DECEMBER 8, 2010 - Hunting for ways to make their wedding reception both entertaining and affordable, couples have been turning back to the pages of tradition in droves. This holiday season, a record number of brides and grooms are asking for dance lessons as their Christmas and Chanukah gifts. Brides are discovering that the 4 minutes of their first dance doesn't have to be a bad re-creation of their Jr High Prom. Instead, the modern moves of the hot new salsa and swing dance craze as inspired by television shows like "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance" are exactly the excitement they are searching for.
Joe Way, owner of Promenade Dance Studio in Costa Mesa, CA, says that this normally quite time of the year due to people's busy schedules has the dance studio buzzing with excited couples wanting to offer more to their guests. "I think today's wedding couples are realizing that they have to find alternative ways to make their weddings unique, and one way of doing that is through putting together a first dance that goes a step beyond the boring slow dance," Way says. "They are also finding that it creates a great escape from their normal lives, while also receiving the benefit of having something special they can share together at the rest of the reception and beyond into their married years."
One of these anxious couples dreaded the thought of having to stand in front of over 200 guests and dance. Way sites her saying, "Our parents bought us a gift certificate for a few lessons, and we discovered that it was a lot more fun and a lot easier that we had imagined. [It was] exactly as our teacher had promised." Because they had friends who regularly go out to local Orange County nightspots, they decided to put on a show, starting out with a slow dance to Etta James' "At Last" and breaking out into a fun, fast salsa mix. The guests adored it, leaving the wedding reception praising it as the most fabulous part of the entire wedding. Even a year later, they still make every Friday evening their "date-dance night."
Dancing isn't just for the stars. Way says, "if I could learn to dance, trust me, anyone could." As engagement season approaches, think about the gift that builds a true [dance] partnership. They'll be happy to cha-cha-cha right on down the aisle. Many dance studios like Promenade Dance Studio in Costa Mesa, CA, offer special offers for beginners and wedding couples. Join in on the "floor play."
