Jackson Therapy Partners raises 1,097 lbs. of food for local food bank

2010-12-11
ORLANDO, FL December 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) Last year, 731,900 people required food assistance from Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. This year, Jackson Therapy Partners was hungry to help; raising 1,097 lbs. of food for those in need. Now, that's food for thought.

Jackson Therapy Partners recently set aside two weeks for associates to collect non-perishable food and monetary donations for Second Harvest with a goal of raising 800 items for the Food Bank. By the end of the drive, Jackson Therapy associates had collected 1,680 items/1,097 lbs of food --- the equivalent of 732 meals for locals throughout the surrounding Central Florida counties.

Jackson Therapy's president and CEO, Scott L'Heureux, commented on the drive, stating, "The success of this food drive was a result of putting a worthy cause in the hands of a group of highly competitive individuals! We're proud of the participation from our associates and hope to work with Second Harvest again in the future."

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects and distributes donated food to more than 600 nonprofit partner agencies throughout six Central Florida counties: Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Over the past year the Food Bank distributed 26 million pounds of food to those in need. This enabled partner agencies to provide more than 17 million meals per year. For every dollar donated, Second Harvest can provide up to $9.00 in food value for people in need.
