LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA, December 16, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Jerai Mountain Bike Jamboree 2011 may encourage people visiting Langkawi next month to take a trip to the Malaysian mainland.

Set to take place on January 16th at Perwaja Steel in Gurun, the event will see participants tackle a 48km course comprising an array of challenging terrain.

Anyone brave enough to put their fitness to the test at the meet-up will need to overcome 781m of ascents and descents throughout the race, just 20 per cent of which will be held on roads.

A grand prize and winner's medal are up for grabs for the entrant who crosses the line first, while everyone who completes the course will be rewarded for their efforts with a ranking sticker.

People planning to head out from their Langkawi hotels to push their bodies to the limit in this contest should note they are in for an early start, with the flag-off time scheduled for 07:30 local time.

Lunch and energy drinks are included for all those who register, with entrance costing 60 Malaysian ringgits (GBP12).

Tourists should be aware mountain biking is a popular sport in the state of Kedah and Malaysia as a whole, with the area also playing host to the start of the Tour de Langkawi, which will be held later on next month.
