RANCHO CORDOVA, CA, December 22, 2010 (Press-News.org) Local childrens' to teens' authors are scheduled to appear at Reading and Writing Rocks! an event to promote literacy in kids of all ages from birth to age 18. The event will run January 22 and 23, 2011, at The Market Place, 11395 Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova, California. Many authors are scheduled to speak, read from their works or conduct activities for attendees during the event.
There will be readings, storytelling, workshops for aspiring writers, crafts and other fun activities. Each child who attends will receive one ticket for a door prize drawing and a chance to win books and other fun prizes. Authors will be available for book signing from noon until 3:00 pm each day.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter writing contests to win prizes, including their work featured in an anthology that will be made available for sale at The Market Place. Contests will be for writers aged 14-18 years or 13 and under, in the categories of poetry, short stories or essays. Poetry may be on any topic, limited to one page. Short stories may be written about any subject and should be between one and five pages in length. Essays should be one to two pages and written on the topic of The Importance of Reading. Deadline for entry will be February 15th, 2011, and the winners will be announced on March 5th during a special awards ceremony at The Market Place. For this event, The Market Place seeks published authors of books written for kids of any age, volunteers to help with crafts tables, bands to play child-appropriate music and donations for prizes.
