DALLAS, TX, December 29, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Secret Society of Happy People announces its 13th annual Happiest Events and Moments of the year:

5. The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear lead by Jon Stewart and in-character Stephen Colbert served as a much-needed reminder that most Americans are still moderates.

4. President Obama signed into law the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell allowing all military personnel to serve with integrity.

3. Social media shows its influence as Facebook fans revive Betty White's career by petitioning for her to host Saturday Night Live ... and Mark Zuckerman graces the cover of Time for connecting millions of people every minute of the day.

2. The world united as we watched the rescue of 33 Chilean miners in a miraculous story of survival and rescue.

1. Harvard psychologists and an iPhone app, Track Your Happiness, confirmed that people are happiest when they are having sex.

Secret Society of Happy People Highlights

Founded: August 1998

Purpose: The Secret Society of Happy People encourages the expression of happiness and discourages parade-raining. Parade-rainers are those people who don't want to hear your happy news. And no, we don't tell people to be happy if they aren't or how to be happy.

History: The Society gained international recognition in December 1998 when it challenged Ann Landers for discouraging people from writing happy holiday newsletters to enclose with their holiday cards.

Since then the Society has:

- Announced the Happiest Events and Moments of 1998-2010
- Identified the Thirty-one Types of Happiness
- Declared August and August 8th as Happiness Happens Month & Day
Nineteen governors sent proclamations in 1998
- Organized HappyThon, the first online social media event to promote happiness on August 1, 2009 & 2010
- Organized voting for the Happiest Events, Inventions and Social Changes of the Century
- Declared January 16 - 22, 2011 as the tenth Hunt for Happiness Week
Seven governors sent proclamations in 2006

The Society has been featured in People Magazine, Newsweek and Time, and has been included in stories in Reader's Digest, Prevention, Ladies Home Journal, Harpers, Yoga Journal, SELF, Redbook, Glamour, and New Age Journal. Founder Pamela Gail Johnson was on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher.
