Promising New Approach to Approach to Environmental Grants

eCycle B.E.S.T., a company which reaches out to other businesses and charities and seeks to buy their used mobile electronics in order to recycle them and keep them out of landfills.

2011-01-01
SPARKS, NV, January 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) The completion of 2000s decade has demonstrated a profound change in environmental protection and policy. In 2010 alone, the EPA's budget doubled to nearly ten and a half billion dollars.

Richard Catlin of eCycle B.E.S.T., a local business-to-business electronic waste recycling company has been searching for innovative and productive ways to spend this available money while growing electronic waste awareness and solutions.

"They always say that there is so much money out there, just waiting to be grabbed, but it never is," says Mr. Catlin. "Yet, it's never that simple. One can't simple pick up a grant description and decide they want that money. The process is much more painful. We want to change that."

Mr. Catlin and eCycle B.E.S.T. are looking to reach out to the local community in order to stimulate the local economy and change environmental practice for the better.

"I was inspired when I saw an EPA grant directed toward environmental workforce training. We're working on that grant, but I thought, 'why stop there?' There's a lot of smart people out there who want to make a difference, but they don't have the means. They can't get a grant because it's too hard, or it's only available to certain groups. We've got our ducks in a row. We want to talk to these people and brainstorm."

Richard Catlin is an employee of eCycle B.E.S.T., a company which reaches out to other businesses and charities and seeks to buy their used mobile electronics in order to recycle them and keep them out of landfills.
