Barbados Band Picks Up MTV Accolade

Barbadian band, NexCyx, is MTV Iggy's Artist of the Week. The title was conferred on the pop group after it edged out four other international bands in an intense online poll, which closed on January 4, 2011 at 11.59 p.m. ET.

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS, January 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) Barbadian band, NexCyx, is MTV Iggy's Artist of the Week.

The title was conferred on the pop group after it edged out four other international bands in an intense online poll.

The ballot, which closed January 4, 2011 at 12.59 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time, saw NexCyx emerging with 51.55 percent of the vote, ahead of Japanese contenders, Molice, who took nearly 47 percent.

"We are truly humbled by the support our fans showed in the online poll. NexCyx considers this not just a win for us but for Barbadian music and our supporters at home and worldwide," said Russell Padmore, guitarist.

Just after 1 a.m., congratulations streamed in to the band's Facebook and Twitter pages from delighted fans, underscoring the ardent support it continues to receive from its growing 5,000+ social media followers.

As Artist of the Week, NexCyx gets prime weeklong placement on the MTV Iggy homepage (link: http://www.mtviggy.com), an online space MTV has dedicated to international music and pop culture. In addition, the band, as part of its win, is featured on MTVmusic.com (link: http://blog.mtvmusic.com/2011/01/04/qa-with-barbados-buzz-band-nexcyx/).

This accolade comes just ahead of a whirlwind first quarter for NexCyx. On January 8, 2011, the group attends the 2011 Barbados Music Awards, having received nods in four Barbados Music Awards categories. At the end of the month, they take the stage at the Bequia Mount Gay Music Fest as featured performers.

In March, the band will attend and showcase at the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, one of the world's largest gatherings of music industry players.
