BLOOMINGTON, MN, January 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Bloomington, Minn.-based startup marketing agency is looking for experienced professionals to design and sell interactive advertising campaigns for local businesses.
"What's really helping us make solid inroads is not just selling but actually teaching businesses how to use web 2.0, and the importance of changing your website from a resource to a revenue stream," said Gary Stockert, COO of FuzedMarketing. "It's a lot like getting a gym membership and complementing it with a personal trainer."
The company wants professionals with at least three years of sales experience in a business-to-business environment, preferably with expertise in interactive advertising.
"Our ideal candidate is coming from our competition," said Stockert. "They're people who're leaving organizations where they're doing similar things to us but don't want to be restricted by the corporate policy limitation of such organizations."
Sales work will be more consulting-based, Stockert said, where success is determined more by the ability to identify and solve clients' specific problems than simply pushing a sale.
"We believe that the marketing business doesn't have to be such a shell-game," said Shane Dunn, vice president of sales at FuzedMarketing. "And a pitch can't just be, 'Let [me] read you a sheet about what a website should be like.' You need to be able to tell a story, and ask questions."
New hires can expect a traditional week-long training program focusing on core aspects of the business such as proprietary systems, workflow, sales strategies and goals. The firm currently acquires five new clients a week, Dunn said, who are mainly local and automotive businesses and real estate brokerages such as RE/MAX Results. With the new hires, it plans to bring that figure up to 15 new businesses a week.
Salespeople can also choose from three compensation plans, depending on their sales styles, Dunn said.
"It's really based on individual ability -- the big hitters would go for the straight commission plan," said Dunn. "Or we also have the draw against commission or the usual base plus [commission] plans."
Newcomers can expect to earn between $60,000 and $80,000 in their first year, Stockert said, depending on their level of success.
"There will be no millionaires in the first year, unfortunately," said Stockert. "But hopefully we'll get there."
FuzedMarketing was set up in November and operates across virtual offices in Dallas, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Knoxville, Tenn. and Columbus, Ohio, besides its headquarters.
